Groups for the Winter 2012

“The Revelation to St. John:  Will the World End in 2012?”  January 8, 15, 22, and February 5, 2012

This group, led by Fr. Jeff Murph, meets on Sunday mornings between services (9:30-10:15) in the Parish Hall.  This class, meeting on January 15 and 22, will examine the last book of the Bible, Revelation, to see what it says about God’s plan for the end of all things.  How do Christians interpret this book?  Does it give us a time certain for when the end will come?  What message of hope does it offer?

Bishop Kenneth Price leads Adult Forum (January 29,2012)

“Heresies”  (beginning February 12, 2012)

Led by Fr. Chips Koehler, beginning on February12, and meeting in the St. Anne’s Guild Room beginning each Sunday at 9:30am, this class looks at the various misunderstandings of the message of Jesus Christ (which the Church calls heresies).  Looking at ancient mistakes as well as modern echoes of these same mistakes, this group will consider why a true teaching of who Jesus is makes a difference in the Christian life.

Sunday Morning Women’s Group                                                                                                                          This group, limited to women, will meet on Sunday mornings between services (9:30-10:15) in the Guild Room, for Bible study and discussion.

“Shop Talk” (for men)
This group, led by the Rev. Gib Watt, meets at Longwood at Oakmont bi-weekly.  Exclusively for men, participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch and enjoy conversation and fellowship.

Wednesday Women’s Bible Study I
Dory Dietz leads this bimonthly group of women at her home (Call the parish office for information).  This winter, this group will take a brief hiatus until March.  This group looks at the Bible but also meets to pray and support one another in our own Christian walk.

Friday Women’s Bible Study II
This Bible study meets every Friday at the home of Shelley Cammisa.  We are a group of women serious about learning more about the Bible and how it applies to our lives.

Home Dinner Group
This group meets once a month just for dinner and for fellowship.  There is no agenda other than sharing together and getting to know one another better.  The dinner changes to a different home every month.  Call the church office for current information.

Heaven’s Kitchen

Julie Bucci leads this group (start date to be announced) which shares faith, fellowship and food.  Heaven’s Kitchen meets in the church’s kitchen on Wednesdays for four weeks.  A different leader each week shares recipes and gives a demonstration of how to make them.  The fellowship is fun and the food is fantastic.  Open to all.

Griefshare Group

Grane Hospice leads a two month group, held at St. Thomas Church, designed for the family members of those who have lost loved ones.  How do we deal with the loss of someone who has been an integral part of our lives for years?  How do we deal with a loss that feels so acute?  This course, using materials from Griefshare, helps.  It is offered two or three times a year and meets on Tuesdays.  The next Griefshare Group will meet beginning on Tuesday, March 13 (through June 12) from 6pm to 8pm.  Call the church office for more information.
